A couple of days ago, we went over how to get your blog a great start on Instagram and promised we’d deliver some tips beyond the basics. Get set now—here’s a list of seven things you can do to rise above the rest.

Top 7 Tips for Your Instagram Plan

1. Post only your most beautiful photos.

Snap a bunch of on-brand photos that are both beautiful and inspiring—then look through your camera roll and only upload the best of the best. Make your photos engaging; this is a sneak-peak into your world through the camera lens… and your world is an exciting one!

2. Use apps to enhance your images.

Look into apps like Diptic that create collages out of multiple images.  These average 20% more likes and 25% more comments than regular images.

Also use these 3 apps to enhance your images and videos and make them stand out as “moments.”

3. Choose your hashtags carefully.

Do some research on popular keywords for your products and your brand. We suggest using approximately 6–10 hashtags per post.

4. Post at peak times.

The best time to post is totally dependent upon your readership. Are your followers checking during business hours, or are they only scrolling through after hours or on weekends? Posting when most of your audience is online drives engagement—which means more likes, comments, and shares. And who doesn’t want that?

You can use iconosquare to identify when your audience is most active, and apps like Latergram or Schedugram to queue your posts at appropriate times (although it’s highly recommended that you be online when your posts go up so you can interact!).

5. Use the “Add to Photo Map” feature.

Use the geolocation service that comes with the app. It may seem like a simple bit of information, but it helps connect you with your followers. You can also edit location titles to witty headlines—especially if you’re uncomfortable sharing—to encourage follower interaction with the images in question.

6. Seek Interaction

It’d be swell if you could just post a neat quote and call it a day, but if you really want to succeed on Instagram, you’ll also want to grain traction by interacting with other users.

To do that, post images of your events and show followers what your brand has been up to by offering sneak peaks of upcoming projects or small interviews with new team members.

Also try:

  • Liking and commenting on other people’s photos.
  • Holding contests and giveaways.
  • Asking your followers to submit captions for your images.
  • Coming up with a hashtag in which followers post their own images.

7. Be innovative.

Come up with your own ideas for Instagram by looking around you.

For example, Latina Bloggers Connect recently tried to adapt the Twitter chat format to Instagram with experimental “Instachats.” Some Instagrammers thought this’d be awesome, but others didn’t think the platform would be suitable. Still, when Ponn and Heidi joined LBC to discuss our Blogger Building Blocks, it was a fun, fast, and informative experience.
