For creating collages of your photos, I highly recommend PicMonkey for when you’re using your laptop or desktop computer and the Layout app by Instagram for when you’re on your mobile device (whether that’s iPhone or Android). Both offer simple “drag & drop” features, making them both easy and enjoyable to use.
Making a Photo Collage with PicMonkey
- Upload the pictures you want to include in your collage.
- Drag and drop them where you want them to go. (Don’t forget to make the dimensions 640 X 640.)
Here you can see how we designed the collage for our Instagram announcement of the 2nd episode of Heidi’s Fashion Diary (https://www.instagram.com/p/96tcPTqUvq/):
When using the Layout app, the process is basically the same, but on your mobile device.
- Select the photos you want to use.
- Select your layout.
- Drag and drop your selected photos so they’re in the right place.
- “Pinch” to adjust photos (if needed).
Here you’ll see how we designed the collage for a recent #TBT on Instagram: (https://www.instagram.com/p/-AdTKhKUrh/):
Preparing Photos Ahead of Time
Based on our Instagram Editorial Calendar, we found it easiest to create photo collages at least a week ahead of time so that they’re ready for us when it’s time for them to go live on Instagram.
We used Dropbox and created a folder specifically for our Instagram posts. Once each photo or collage is cropped or created, we save it into that folder with the date it’s to be posted.
We hope you found this tutorial helpful! We’re really enjoying our new Instagram Action Plan and learning each day we execute this plan. So if there’s any particular tip, tool, or tutorial you’d like us to share, please comment below.
