Hopefully, you’re following us on Pinterest by now. We announced our revamp in October, and in the short two months of our regained Pinterest enthusiasm, we’ve learned lots of new things about the platform! Our followers are steadily growing, and we pin new things daily, but we don’t claim to know it all… yet.
With the help of Melyssa Griffin’s webinar for Teachable, Pinfinite Growth, we have great new insights on how to grow our Pinterest and yours!
Did you know that Pinterest is most successful at translating pinners to purchasers and has the highest order value out of all social media platforms? It’s also the #2 source of traffic to Shopify. The average pin gets repinned 11 times; therefore, it reaches at least 11 other pinners’ audiences. Bloggers and influencers can be extremely influential on Pinterest, especially because the platform is not yet saturated with “infoprenuers” like us yet.

Here are five valuable focus areas relevant to bloggers that Melyssa shared for improving your Pinterest:
1. Optimize Your Profile
Your description should include:
- what you do or how you help people
- who you serve
- a call to action
Additionally, your actual boards should be relevant and helpful to your ideal audience. Include your blog’s content, feature keywords that will spark your audience’s attention, and have some branded photos for promotion.
2. Apply Pinterest SEO Tactics
Believe it or not, Pinterest has a smart feed algorithm (like Google’s) that displays the best pins first, not the newest ones. Because of this, you want to use numerous keywords in your individual pin descriptions and in your board descriptions that appeal to what your target audience may be searching for.

3. Always Link Your Pins
Whether you want pinners to add their names to your email subscription list or simply see your latest blog post, direct them to those pages by linking your pins to exactly where you want your audiences to go. This way, when they click your image, they are automatically funneled to your blog, thereby increasing your traffic, and potentially growing your email listserv.
4. Join Group Boards
Participating in group boards allows you to leverage numerous pinners at once and expand your exposure. All the members of the group and their followers can see pins that you’ve added. Shared Pinterest groups range in number of participants from just a few to thousands. Marked with a two-person icon in the top right corner, you want to find the group boards most relevant to your content, follow the steps to be added, and pin to them according to the precedent others have set.
5. Try Promoted Pins
Yes, promoted pins cost money, but before you rule them out, consider that they are cheaper than other social media ad fees and they live long past their “promoted” period, continuing to be successful even after you’ve stopped paying for them. Promoted pins stay on Pinterest forever and allow you to target keywords that pinners are actually searching for.
If you’re going to invest, make sure you use a branded image that piques curiosity, implies a takeaway for viewers, grabs attention, and is designed specifically for Pinterest.
Now that you’ve got these new Pinterest tips, go implement them! We think you’ll be surprised at how well they work–we were! As always, keep us posted.
