I know, it’s not the first social media platform you think of when it comes to promoting your blog, but have you tried LinkedIn yet? Like Facebook for people with career interests, LinkedIn is the largest social network for professionals today, Your profile contains your educational background, work history, and other career-related items.
If you’re in the workforce, chances are you have a profile. Maybe you’ve even used it when looking for a new job—or to land your dream one. But have you used it to promote your blog yet?
Bloggers often ignore this social platform because of its typical uses, but I’m here to tell you not to make that mistake! You can absolutely use LinkedIn to help you succeed.
As a blogger, you can use LinkedIn to:
- bring in new followers
- get noticed by companies that may be willing to advertise with you
- connect with fellow bloggers and companies that sell products relevant to your blog (for example, a fashion blogger can connect to the marketing and PR managers of department stores and fashion brands)
- get local and national media coverage, get funding, generate leads, sell products, receive support, find new employees, etc.
- drive organic and free traffic to your blog!

So, to make the most out of LinkedIn, you’ll want a profile that stands out from other bloggers. Here are a few of our tips.
1. Make it compelling.
Complete your profile as best as you can. Try your hardest to get it to 100%. Providing more information looks better and makes you more credible—just check out Heidi’s profile as an example. Notice how every single section is filled out with great detail? Doesn’t that just make you want to work with her?
2. Customize your website link.
You’ll want the link to be pretty, short, and easy to remember—follow the same principles as with masking affiliate links.
3. Link to your blog and Twitter accounts.
Link your relevant accounts so that your connections know where to find you and your blog. The keyword here is relevant. So think twice if you have multiple Twitter accounts—if it’s not relevant to your blog, it doesn’t belong here.
4. Write a post on LinkedIn pulse when you can.
Did you know you can make blog posts and publish articles on LinkedIn? See an example by Heidi here.
5. Respond to everything as fast as you can.
Answering questions can help you build trust with your readers and connections. If you provide relevant and valuable answers, people will stay in touch.
6. Comment on other people’s profiles and in groups.
Post engaging and relevant comments in groups. When someone posts something you can relate to, why not comment on it?
LinkedIn is actually Heidi’s favorite social media channel in terms of return on investment, and my own best networking is done on the site, whether as a columnist, freelance writer, or blogger. This is the one site throughout my decade as a blogger that actually has my full professional history—highest level contacts, endorsements, and testimonials. So I say this from experience: make the most of it!
